Water shut-off in oil-wells applying viscous and solid hydrocarbons

The technology is based on injecting viscous and solid bitumen suspension into the formation to be insulated. When suspension ingresses in a water-encroached formation the plugging-back of water inflow channels occurs due to bitumen setting-up. In oil-saturated intervals the suspension is diluted with oil and washed out of the reservoir, which is indicative of the technology’s selectivity.

In the initial period of forming the plugging screen can withstand significant pressure differentials due to the multiple increase of viscosity of high-viscous oil when it cools down to the formation temperature.


  • the technology is comparatively inexpensive and completely safe both for environment and productive formation due to use of natural agents (bitumen, viscous oil);
  • the long-term water inflows shut-off can be achieved provided that correct choice of bitumen properties is made taking into account the thermobaric conditions of the formation.
  • durable plugging of water-saturated formation and continuous oil recovery are achieved due to treatment selectivity.
  • the technology is applicable for squeeze jobs both in carbonate and terrigenous reservoirs as well as for injectivity profile equalizing. 

.Operation results on oil fields in Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, China, Cuba, Poland, Russia, Syria, Turkmenistan and Ukraine have shown that after the Company’s technologies application the oil production increases from 2 to 5 times and even more. After well workover the duration of well’s operation at increased level of yield is from 6 months to 2 years.
