Strengthening (fixing) the wellbottom zone with phenol-formaldehyde compounds (plastic materials)

Purpose:

The technology is designed to reduce sand production in sand ingress wells. 

Content:

The sufficient amount of the strengthening compound (resin) to fill in the entire porous space of the targeted area is injected into the bottomhole formation zone. At the formation temperature the resin solidifies and “cements” the rock, strengthens (fixes) its structure while the rock permeability is preserved.  

The strengthening compound is a mixture of phenol and formalin with application of inactive acid as reaction catalyst.

Resin setting time is determined depending on the bottomhole temperature and it is from 4 to 30 days at the temperature from 300С to 700С. In order to reduce the resin setting time the Company offers to apply the technology which makes it possible to artificially raise the temperature in the bottomhole.

According to the technology the thermal processing of the wellbottom zone is performed the next day after the treatment with phenol-formaldehyde compounds. A required amount of magnesium chips for attaining necessary level of temperature is injected into the well. The chips are squeezed into the wellbottom zone with small volume of displacement liquid and then hydrochloric acid is injected. Acid reacts with magnesium and raises temperature in the wellbottom zone up to 1000С and higher. As a result the polymerization reaction and liquid solidification proceed much faster (resin setting time is reduced 5-6 times).

After treatment of the bottomhole formation zone with phenol-formaldehyde compounds the well is put on production by means of a “soft start”.

 

.Operation results on oil fields in Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, China, Cuba, Poland, Russia, Syria, Turkmenistan and Ukraine have shown that after the Company’s technologies application the oil production increases from 2 to 5 times and even more. After well workover the duration of well’s operation at increased level of yield is from 6 months to 2 years.
